Review Of The “Mahalo-Halo” From The Halo-Halo Place By Magnolia In 2023
The Mahalo-halo is one of the best selling items at the Halo-halo place by Magnolia’s Ice Cream and Treats located in Honolulu and Las Vegas. Although it is not frozen yogurt, it is a special type of cold dessert.
The Mahalo-Halo
The Mahalo-Halo is an artisanal handcrafted creation made by Magnolia Ice Cream and Treats. It is composed of several ingredients at the bottom such as banana, macapuno (coconut strings), azuki and mongo beans, langka (jackfruit), kaong (date palm jelly) as well as nata de coco (coconut gel). At the top of the Mahalo-halo is purple Ube ice cream and crispy rice called pinipig. As for the name, Mahalo-halo is a combination of words in two languages.
Review by FrozenYogurt.com
The Mahalo-halo we bought at retail was slightly overflowing for the cup size, so you may need to use some extra napkins when you buy this item to soak up the liquid. In some ways, that is a good thing because it means there is a lot of product in there. The Mahalo-halo tasted slightly sweet, but not too sweet, and the crispy rice added an interesting texture. At the bottom of the drink there are several different types of fruits for a sweeter taste, they are too solid to drink so you can eat them with a spoon. The Mahalo-halo retail location provided both spoons and the big types of straws that are used to drink bubble tea. Overall, we rate the Mahalo-halo a 4.5/5 stars.
Origin of Halo-halo and the Mahalo-halo
Halo-halo is a type of dessert from the Philippines made up of crushed ice and other mixed ingredients such as Ube ice cream, corn, beans or crispy rice. Mahalo in the Hawaiian language means “thank you” and Halo-halo is the name of the dessert in the Tagalog language. Halo-halo was brought to the United States by immigrants from the Philippines.
